Welcome to Adventure Bound – a family friendly outdoor recreation center in Caratunk, Maine! We create a youth focused environment that is exciting and fun while enjoying the outdoors. Check out all the outdoor activities we offer to large youth groups and families!!
1. Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting in Maine is the ultimate adventure for kids. Take a day trip to Adventure Bound for a youth oriented rafting trip. No experience required! Adventure Bound’s registered Maine whitewater guides set you up with all the safety and rafting equipment you’ll need.
- Start your day taking on the class II-IV whitewater in the upper Kennebec River gorge.
- Stop for lunch at AB’s beach for a BBQ lunch cooked over the fire.
- Enjoy the rest of the lower Kennebec gorge – swimming, jumping off rafts, and paddling inflatable kayaks.
- Finish the day relaxing at the activities center basecamp and view a photo slideshow of your day.
- Spend the night on our 40-acre waterfront property, camping or a cabin tent.
- The activity center offers tons of amenities, such as an outdoor pool, hot tub, hiking trails, indoor climbing wall, disc golf and so much more!!

2. River Float Trip – Inflatable Kayaks or Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP)
Float the lower Kennebec river starting in The Forks, Maine and end back at the Adventure Bound basecamp in Caratunk. 9 miles of fun, paddling inflatable kayaks or stand up paddle boards. Stop to take a short hike and swim at an awesome waterfall on the Appalachian Trail!
This is a great half day afternoon activity. Since the Kennebec river’s water level are controlled upriver at the Harris Station dam, the water level rises in The Forks around 12:30pm each day allowing for the perfect floating level. Adventure Bound has it’s own take out on the Kennebec. How great to end your float trip back at your accommodations?!
The kayaks and SUPs are also available to rent. Explore on your own, one of the many local lakes in The Forks area and make a full day of it!
3. Hiking
Maine is known for some great hiking. The Kennebec rive valley is full of easy to moderate family friendly hikes. The most popular hike leads you to Moxie Falls, a beautiful 90′ waterfall! This is an easy self guided hike about 2 miles round trip. Remember to bring those snacks to help your young hikers stay energized. Or plan a nature scavenger hunt (download pdf) to keep kids engaged and learning!
If you’re new to hiking or have a large youth group, Adventure Bound’s register Maine recreation guides will lead and coordinate a hike for you! We’ll provide transportation, lunch and staff so your group can enjoy a hike the fits your groups abilities and schedule.

4. Rock Climbing
Adventure Bound offers indoor and outdoor rock climbing!
Our activity center has an indoor climbing wall for a fun evening session. The AB staff will teach your group the basics of rock climbing. A great activity after a day of rafting!
Or book a full day outdoor rock climbing adventure on Moxie Lake. This family friendly activity is focused on learning a new skill and enjoying the outdoors. Adventure Bound will provide transportation, lunch and all the required equipment. Meet at our activity center in Caratunk for an 8am orientation and we’ll take it from there. Add rafting for your next days activity and round out a truly adventurous weekend.

5. Ropes Course
Located right on the grounds of the Adventure Bound, we offer a Low and High ropes course program. This is the perfect team building and leadership activity for youth groups. The low and high ropes course challenge kids physically and mentally, building self confidence and communication skills. We offer full or half day courses that include lunch.

6. Disc Golf & Amenities
Adventure Bound is located on a 40-acre wooded area along the Kennebec river. A beautiful property to explore with walking trails, fields for games and a 9 hole Disc Golf course available to any of our guests. Play a round of disc golf and then head to the activity center to enjoy the outdoor pool and hot tub! Or take a short hike along the banks of the Kennebec River. These family friendly amenities and grounds are unmatched in Maine!

7. Remote Camping
Camping in the remote wilderness is a classic Maine adventure. Take in breathtaking scenic views, swim in lakes, and sit around a campfire. This is a trip every child should have the opportunity to experience. Our registered Maine guides will take care of your group on the water and at camp, taking you to our campsites accessible only by boat. Enjoy two night camping next to a lake, kayaking the East Outlet and rafting the Kennebec.
